CAF Announces Dates for CAN in Morocco and Expresses Gratitude to King Mohammed VI

In announcing the dates for the CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations for men, Morocco 2025, and the CAF TotalEnergies Women's Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2024, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) expressed its gratitude, first and foremost, to King Mohammed VI.

"CAF is grateful to His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and its President Fouzi Lekjaa, the government, and the Moroccan people for hosting the CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 and the CAF TotalEnergies Women's Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2024," said CAF President Patrice Motsepe, as quoted in the statement from the Confederation's Executive Committee, published on Friday, June 21, announcing these major continental football events.

According to the officially unveiled schedule, the opening match of the CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 will take place on Sunday, December 21, 2025, with the final set for Sunday, January 18, 2026. As for the CAF TotalEnergies Women's Africa Cup of Nations, which will also be held in Morocco, it will begin on Saturday, July 5, 2025, and conclude on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

"I am confident that the CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025, will be a great success and the best CAN in the history of this competition," commented Patrice Motsepe, quoted in the CAF statement. The President of the Confederation added, "I am also impressed by the evolution of women's football in Africa and expect the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2024, to be immensely successful."

For his part, the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, expressed his hope that the CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 will serve as an excellent platform to honor Africa and that Morocco will provide the best conditions to welcome the rest of Africa and the world.

By establishing the official schedule for major African competitions, CAF reiterated its commitment to protecting and promoting the interests of African players playing in European and other international clubs. CAF also committed to building mutually beneficial relationships with the ECA, UEFA, other football confederations, and FIFA.

"We will continue to work to ensure that African football is more competitive globally and among the best in the world," assured Motsepe. 

Decisions were also made to open applications for hosting the 2024 CAF Women's Champions League, the CAF TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations, the CAF TotalEnergies U20 Africa Cup of Nations, and the 2024 CAF Awards.

Additionally, CAF revealed that it has received interesting proposals from the Middle East to host the 2024 CAF TotalEnergies Super Cup, which will pit Al Ahly SC, winner of the CAF TotalEnergies Champions League, against Zamalek SC, winner of the CAF TotalEnergies Confederation Cup.

Furthermore, the CAF Executive Committee announced that the 46th CAF Ordinary General Assembly will be held in Kinshasa, DR Congo, on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
