Trained at PSG, former Ivorian international Sol Bamba resumed his career after battling cancer in 2021. He passed away at the age of 39.

"Leeds United is devastated to learn of the passing of its former captain Sol Bamba at the age of 39," announced the English second-division team in a statement. Sol Bamba had announced that he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at the beginning of 2021 while playing for Cardiff.

The former international primarily played as a central defender. Bamba chose to represent Ivory Coast, the national team of his country of origin. It was in the Ivorian colors that he participated in several major competitions, including the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

His experience and commitment to his country were praised by many supporters and football commentators.

Throughout his career, Sol Bamba played for several clubs across Europe. He began his professional career at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), although he did not make a first-team appearance for the club. He then moved to Scotland to play with Dunfermline Athletic and later with Hibernian, where his solid defensive performance gained him recognition.

Bamba also spent time in the English Championship, playing for teams such as Leicester City, Leeds United, and Cardiff City. It was particularly with Cardiff City that he experienced significant moments, helping the team achieve promotion to the Premier League during the 2017-2018 season.

Sol Bamba was admired for his leadership in defense, his commitment on the field, and his positive character and strength off the field. His fight and courage in the face of his illness will be remembered.
