The future prospects of fertilizer production and usage in relation to soil health are taking shape in Nairobi, where the much-anticipated African Summit began on Thursday, May 9.

Organized by the African Union and the Kenyan government, the Nairobi Summit provides an opportunity to highlight the critical role of fertilizers and soil health in fostering sustainable agricultural growth that benefits impoverished populations.

In addition to the expected Nairobi Declaration on Fertilizers and Soil Health in Africa, the event aims to result in the adoption of a Decadal Action Plan that would provide concrete recommendations on actions to be taken over the next ten years, as well as a framework for the Soil Initiative for Africa.

The Summit will enable a comprehensive review of soil health in Africa and will propose solutions to realign strategies deployed to boost soil productivity, for higher and more sustainable yields, serving the African citizen.

Morocco, home to the OCP Group—one of the global leaders in the fertilizer sector—is actively participating in this event. Representing His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, is in attendance.

The recommendations and final conclusions of the Summit are highly anticipated.
