The Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI) has just established a National Constitutional Committee, composed of 23 members. Its mission: to draft a new constitution.

The newly formed committee in Gabon, tasked with developing a new supreme text, is led by Murielle Minkoué Mintsa. She is the current Minister of Institutional Restoration.

The new committee follows the work of the inclusive national dialogue that concluded on April 30, with the goal of steering Gabon towards true democracy and the rule of law.

The new constitution is expected to enshrine the inviolability of the principle of separation of powers, as well as the prohibition of amending the number and duration of the term of the President of the Republic.

The national dialogue recommended that the new constitution enshrine the form of a decentralized unitary state, the sovereignty of the Gabonese people over the national territory, natural resources, and historical, archaeological, cultural, and religious treasures.

The constitution draft that will be written is to be submitted to the Gabonese people by way of a referendum.

Members of the National Constitutional Committee will also have the task of implementing the new electoral code, according to the Gabonese press.
