The Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT), unanimously, has agreed to hold the National Forum on the future of the Transition in Ouagadougou.

The deputies of the ALT, gathered in a plenary session, adopted the proposed law granting the Transitional Legislative Assembly's approval for the organization of the national forum, thus paving the way for a possible extension of the transition period in Burkina Faso.

The end of the Transition, according to the charter of October 14, 2022, was scheduled for July 1, 2024, but will likely be extended for a duration to be determined by the Forum.

"The National Forum will deliberate on the next steps for the Transition. Through this legislative proposal, the ALT firmly shows its commitment to allowing a broad consultation on the life of the Nation," explained the ALT.

The adopted project proposes several intervention axes to ensure that the decisions made during the upcoming consultations are fully representative and inclusive. This includes participation from various political groups, civil society, as well as representatives from different regions and communities of the country.

The officially announced objective is to create a forum where all viewpoints can be expressed and taken into account in the decision-making process.

This approach is seen as essential for strengthening the legitimacy of the transition and effectively addressing the political, security, and economic challenges that Burkina Faso faces.

Moreover, the ALT hopes that this approach will contribute to laying the foundations for strong and lasting democratic institutions.

The outcomes of the Forum will determine not only the duration of the transition extension but also the necessary constitutional, institutional, and electoral reforms to ensure stable and effective governance. The law also provides for the establishment of a commission to follow up on the implementation of the forum's resolutions and ensure that all stakeholders remain engaged in the transition process.

With this new law, the ALT shows it is "determined to lead Burkina Faso towards a renewed period of stability, relying on a deep and constructive national dialogue."
