Ghana has launched a new repatriation operation for its nationals living in South Africa in response to a resurgence of xenophobic violence targeting immigrant communities.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the resumption of evacuation flights to protect Ghanaian citizens exposed to attacks against migrants.
This new phase of the operation concerns around 1,000 nationals. The repatriations will be carried out in successive waves, with the first flights expected to arrive in Accra on July 26 and 27.
The Ghanaian authorities reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safe return of their citizens, stressing that no Ghanaian national will be left behind in the face of the violence.
