Chadian Prime Minister Allamaye Halina has been reappointed to his post after resigning on the day the newly elected National Assembly deputies were sworn in last December, according to a presidential decree broadcast on state television on Tuesday.

"Allamaye Halina is appointed Prime Minister, Head of Government," announced Mahamat Ahmat Alhabo, the Secretary-General of the Presidency.

Moments earlier, the Prime Minister had announced his resignation and that of his government in a letter addressed to Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, which was published on the official Facebook page of the Prime Minister’s Office.

"I have the honor to submit my resignation and relinquish my duties as Prime Minister," Halina wrote. "This decision follows the republican tradition after the official establishment of the new legislature," he explained.

In December, the ruling party, the Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS), won a landslide victory in the legislative elections, the first held in the country since 2011.

Allamaye Halina, a former ambassador to China, was appointed Prime Minister in May 2024, just days after Déby’s victory in the presidential election. His predecessor, Succès Masra, had resigned a little over two weeks after his defeat in the May 6 presidential election.

A former Chadian ambassador to China, Halina also served for 13 years as the head of protocol at the presidency under both Déby father and son.
