ECOWAS is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The festivities begin on Tuesday, April 22, in Accra.
The Ghanaian capital is adorned in the colors of ECOWAS for the official launch of the celebrations marking the organization's golden jubilee.
Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama will kick off the commemoration activities for this 50th anniversary.
The Accra ceremony will be filled with vibrant performances, including the unveiling of the logo and theme for the Golden Jubilee, as well as cultural and artistic displays retracing the history of ECOWAS: from its founding in Lagos by the founding fathers, through major reforms, to the successes and significant progress made in the member countries.
Founded on May 28, 1975, in Lagos, Nigeria, ECOWAS remains today the most structured regional economic community on the continent, with numerous accomplishments that contribute to the integration and development of West African populations.
