His Majesty King Mohammed VI received Fatima-Zahra El Mansouri, coordinator of the collective leadership of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), at the Royal Palace in Rabat on Tuesday, where the Sovereign appointed her Head of Government and tasked her with forming a new government, according to a statement from the Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol and Chancellery.
The Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol and Chancellery announced that His Majesty King Mohammed VI received Fatima-Zahra El Mansouri on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the Royal Palace in Rabat. The Sovereign appointed her Head of Government, in accordance with Article 47 of the Constitution, and tasked her with forming the new government.
The appointment follows the September 23 legislative elections. The PAM came first with 97 seats in the House of Representatives, ahead of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), which secured 66 seats, and the Istiqlal Party with 65.
As no single party holds a majority, the newly appointed Head of Government will have to begin consultations to form the next government.
El Mansouri served as Minister of National Territorial Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and City Policy in the outgoing government. She is also the mayor of Marrakech.
