A few days after making history in Hollywood, Angélique Kidjo continues her musical journey with a new version of “Bando,” unveiled on August 28. The track brings together the Beninese singer, American producer and artist Pharrell Williams, and rapper Quavo.
For this new interpretation, “Bando” takes on a more spectacular dimension. The track has been rearranged for orchestra, featuring vocals from the gospel collective Voices of Fire and an ensemble of 50 musicians.
A Music Video Shot in France
The new music video was directed by Paul Hunter, a director notably known for his work with major figures in American music such as Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey and The Notorious B.I.G.
For this production, the teams set up their cameras in Grigny, France, providing the track with a visual setting that complements its new orchestral dimension.

Produced by Pharrell Williams, “Bando” was already featured on HOPE!!, Angélique Kidjo’s eighteenth studio album, released in April 2026.
The project stands out for its international scope and brings together several major figures from the African and global music scenes, including Ayra Starr, Davido, Fally Ipupa, Diamond Platnumz, Nile Rodgers, PJ Morton and the Soweto Gospel Choir.
With this project, the Beninese singer continues her exploration of connections between cultures, generations and different musical styles.
A New Milestone After the Hollywood Walk of Fame
This release comes just a few days after another historic moment in Angélique Kidjo’s career: the unveiling of her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
On this occasion, the Beninese singer became the first Black African artist to receive this distinction. She dedicated the honor to the African continent, highlighting its major influence on the history and evolution of music around the world.
With this new version of “Bando,” Angélique Kidjo continues the momentum of HOPE!!, while giving the track a new dimension through orchestra and gospel. Spanning Africa, the United States and France, the track once again illustrates the artist’s desire to bring cultures and generations into dialogue.
