England and Argentina secured the final two spots in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-finals on Saturday. The Three Lions and La Albiceleste now join France and Spain in the tournament's final four.
In Miami, England had to dig deep to overcome Norway 2-1 after extra time. Trailing after Andreas Schjelderup opened the scoring in the 36th minute, the English side equalized just before halftime through Jude Bellingham (45 2). The Real Madrid midfielder then became the hero by scoring the winning goal early in extra time (93rd minute).
In the other quarter-final, played in Kansas City, Argentina defeated Switzerland 3-1 after extra time. Alexis Mac Allister gave the reigning world champions an early lead in the 10th minute, before Dan Ndoye equalized in the 67th minute. Reduced to ten men following Breel Embolo's red card (72nd minute), the Swiss held firm for a long time, but Julián Álvarez (112th minute) and Lautaro Martínez (120 1) eventually sealed Argentina's qualification.
The semi-final lineup is now complete. France will face Spain on July 14 in a showdown between two European heavyweights, while Argentina will take on England on July 15 in Atlanta for a place in the final.
Three European teams—France, Spain, and England—will attempt to end the reign of Argentina, the defending world champion and the only non-European nation still in contention.
Africa's journey ended in the quarter-finals with Morocco's 2-0 defeat to France. The 2026 FIFA World Cup Final is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
