The 2026 FIFA World Cup has claimed more than just casualties on the pitch. Several national team coaches have also paid the price for disappointing results, bringing their spells in charge to an end.

Among the most notable departures is Marcelo Bielsa. Uruguay endured a nightmare World Cup, failing to live up to expectations, prompting the Argentine coach to resign at the end of the tournament.

The same fate befell Sabri Lamouchi. After a disastrous group stage that ended with three defeats, the Tunisia head coach stepped down. He had been replaced during the tournament by Hervé Renard, but the change failed to prevent the Carthage Eagles from suffering an early elimination.

The day after the group stage concluded, South Korea and Scotland also announced the departures of their respective head coaches. Hong Myung-bo and Steve Clarke both left their positions after failing to guide their teams into the Round of 32.

The Czech Republic was not spared this wave of changes either. Head coach Miroslav Koubek also stepped down after a campaign considered below expectations.

The latest departure is that of Ronald Koeman. The Dutch coach announced his resignation as Netherlands manager following the Oranje's elimination, bringing his tenure to an end after a disappointing World Cup.

Within just a few days, six national team coaches have left their positions, once again illustrating the immense pressure that comes with major international tournaments, where poor results often come at a heavy price.
