Benin is looking to the long term. On Tuesday, February 3, the government launched the “Benin Vision 2060,” entitled “Alafia, a World of Splendors,” a strategic roadmap that sets out the major orientations for the country’s economic, social, and institutional development over the next 35 years.
This new strategic roadmap indicates that the national diagnostic identified several major drivers of transformation, notably the opportunities offered by the digital transition.
The authorities therefore intend to accelerate the development of digital technologies, with particular emphasis on artificial intelligence.
“The National Development Vision 2060 thus positions technology not only as a tool for modernization, but also as a structuring lever for sovereignty, competitiveness, and collective empowerment.”
According to the government, in order to successfully achieve this transition by 2060, Benin will need to ensure equitable digital inclusion across the entire territory, invest in technological sovereignty through research, training, and local innovation, strengthen the security of cyberspace and strategic infrastructures, and fully integrate digital technologies into public, educational, and productive policies.
Digital technology is expected to profoundly transform several key sectors.
In the field of health, investments are planned in medical technologies and the digitalization of the healthcare system.
The education sector is also concerned, with increased adaptation to digital technologies to democratize access to educational content and the promotion of technological education in order to facilitate young people’s integration into the digital economy and the industries of the future.
In productive sectors, the integration of information technologies, digital tools, and artificial intelligence (AI) aims to optimize production processes, strengthen traceability, stimulate innovation, and improve productivity. The modernization of public administration and institutions is another key pillar, with the objective of building more efficient, accessible, digitized services centered on citizens’ needs.
