The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Livestock has launched the Food System Resilience Program.
The new program dedicated to strengthening the resilience of Senegal’s food system will be implemented over the next six years with funding of 132 billion CFA francs from the World Bank and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
"This program is a concrete, structured, and regional response. It has been designed to strengthen the resilience of our agricultural systems by stimulating innovation and private investment," explained Mabouba Diagne, the minister responsible for this department, calling the program "highly relevant."
This initiative, financially supported by the World Bank and IFAD, will be used to "anticipate climate shocks," according to Mr. Diagne.
"We live in an era where challenges are numerous: climate crises, food dependence, instability of agricultural markets, demographic pressure, etc. But these challenges are not inevitable," he said.
The agricultural program will facilitate farmers' access to financing and markets, in addition to increasing their management capacities. 600,000 farmers, including 240,000 women, will benefit from it.
