Angola’s Minister of Telecommunications and ICT, Màrio de Oliveira, has announced plans to create a cybersecurity academy in the country.

"We are working with international companies to establish a cybersecurity academy in Angola," said Màrio de Oliveira.

Speaking to the press during the United Nations Summit on the Future, which adopted the "Pact for the Future" to strengthen multilateralism, the minister also revealed that Angolan authorities are collaborating with Google to set up a digital development center in the country.

Mário de Oliveira added that they are in talks with international giants on topics such as digital transformation and artificial intelligence, aiming to "transform our economy into a digital economy and meet the aspirations of citizens, improving quality of life in sectors like education, health, and boosting digital literacy."

This initiative will help train a skilled workforce in cybersecurity and build trust in local digital infrastructures, fostering innovation and digital adoption.

With a global cybersecurity index of 12.99 out of 100 in 2020, Angola reached a score of 39.49 in 2024. While the country has made significant progress, it still has more work to do to join the continental elite in cybersecurity.
