Guinea-Bissau: Bassirou Diomaye Faye Welcomed with Great Honors

During his state visit to Bissau, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye was awarded the Amílcar Cabral medal and signed several cooperation agreements with his Bissau-Guinean counterpart, Umaro Sissoco Embaló.

On Monday, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye began a 48-hour state visit to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, at the invitation of his counterpart, President Umaro Sissoco Embaló, as reported by the African news agency.

Welcomed with honors at the presidential palace, the Senegalese head of state was awarded the Amílcar Cabral medal, the country's highest distinction, for his commitment to peace, regional cooperation, and strengthening bilateral relations.

The two leaders held a bilateral meeting followed by a joint press conference in which they reaffirmed the strong historical and fraternal ties between their two countries. Several cooperation agreements were signed during this meeting, covering areas such as culture, cinema, health, education, security, transportation, and trade.

According to the Senegalese presidency, President Faye expressed his "deep gratitude for the exceptional welcome" extended to him and reiterated Senegal's commitment to supporting Guinea-Bissau in its efforts for peace and sustainable development.

The visit was also marked by a tribute to the independence heroes at the Amura fortress, where the two heads of state laid wreaths. A state dinner concluded the day, held in an atmosphere of fraternity and shared views on regional issues.
