The unequivocal message from French President Emmanuel Macron to King Mohammed VI, delivered during the Throne Day celebrations in the Kingdom, marks France's official commitment to Morocco's sovereignty over Moroccan Sahara.

In a message addressed to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the French President officially announced to His Majesty the King that he "considers that the present and future of Western Sahara lie within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty", stated the Royal Cabinet in a communiqué on Tuesday

In the message from the President of the French Republic, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the Throne Day celebrations, Emmanuel Macron strongly affirmed to His Majesty the King "the unchanging position of France on this issue of national security for the Kingdom." He also assured that his country "intends to act in coherence with this position both nationally and internationally."

Emmanuel Macron emphasized that "for France, autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the framework in which this issue should be resolved. Our support for the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco in 2007 is clear and consistent," adding that this plan "now constitutes the only basis for achieving a political, just, lasting, and negotiated solution, in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions."

"Today, an increasingly broad international consensus is emerging," noted the French President, regarding the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty, specifying that "France is fully engaged in all concerned forums," particularly through its support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy. "It is time to move forward. I therefore encourage all parties to meet for a political settlement, which is within reach," affirmed President Macron in his message.

Furthermore, after commending Morocco's efforts for the economic and social development of Moroccan Sahara, the French President committed that "France will support Morocco in this endeavor for the benefit of local populations."

This announcement by the French Republic, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, represents an important and significant development in support of Moroccan sovereignty over Moroccan Sahara. It aligns with the momentum initiated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and supported by numerous countries worldwide, advocating for Morocco's territorial integrity and the autonomy plan as the exclusive framework for resolving this regional dispute.
