African Union Commissioner Bankole Adeoye : "This is the essence of democracy for the African Union"

On the sidelines of the first "Dialogue-Seminar on Elections and Democracy in Africa," organized in Rabat by the African Union Commission and the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS) at the headquarters of the Moroccan think tank, Bankole Adeoye explains the "essence of democracy" that the African Union promotes.

During the third specialized training for AU election observers, which was co-organized in Rabat by the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad and the African Union, the PCNS hosted the first "Dialogue-Seminar on Elections and Democracy in Africa." It was an event within an event, given the quality of the frank exchanges that took place on this occasion between the speakers and their numerous and diverse audience. 

The central theme invited debate: "Elections and Democracy in Africa: New Perspectives, Lessons Learned, and Best Practices." In his opening remarks, the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, recalled the fundamental principles of democracy that the African Union promotes. In addition to the principle of freedom that must be guaranteed for citizens during electoral processes, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye emphasized the very purpose of a democracy, which is to serve its citizens and ensure quality public services for them.
