Congolese musician Fally Ipupa has made history with his new album XX, which debuted at number one on the French album sales chart in its very first week. He becomes the first African artist to reach this milestone upon release in the French market.
This achievement marks a major step in the artist’s international career and confirms his growing influence on the Francophone music scene, while also highlighting the global expansion of African music.
South African producer TRESOR played a central role in the project, serving as executive producer, artistic director, songwriter, and featured artist. His involvement helped shape the album’s sound and artistic direction.
Created between Johannesburg, Paris, Los Angeles, and Kinshasa, XX reflects a truly international production, blending Congolese rumba with contemporary global influences. This fusion contributes to the album’s accessibility and success across international markets.
Tracks such as “Alifa Jam,” featuring Wizkid, and “Isoler” showcase this global reach and have contributed to the album’s strong performance in French charts.
According to TRESOR, the project aimed to “build a future for Congolese music while preserving its roots.”
The production also benefited from the contribution of Jacquel Entertainment Group, with Batundi and Rudolph Willemse involved in the artistic development.
The album’s release coincided with Fally Ipupa’s recent stadium concerts in Paris, boosting his visibility at launch. Industry analysts believe that the combination of live performances and streaming numbers played a key role in this record-breaking debut.
The success of XX is seen as a strong signal of the rising global influence of African music, with an increasingly prominent presence in international charts and streaming platforms.
