The relations between Morocco and Senegal continue to strengthen, said on Monday in Rabat the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

During a joint press conference with his Senegalese counterpart, Cheikh Niang, Nasser Bourita noted that the Senegalese Minister’s visit to Morocco marks his first bilateral trip since his appointment, reflecting the depth and strength of the relationship between the two countries.

Senegal is the African country most visited by the Moroccan Monarch, with nine official visits. The Minister recalled that the only time the King addressed his people from abroad was from Dakar, illustrating the special importance the Sovereign attaches to strengthening bilateral ties.

Bourita emphasized that Moroccan-Senegalese relations are based on solid foundations and encompass strong human, religious, economic, and security dimensions. He added that this visit contributes to realizing the ambition shared by the King of Morocco and the President of Senegal to further advance these ties.

On another note, Bourita announced that both parties agreed to work toward holding a joint commission meeting soon, which will serve as a starting point for the signing of existing agreements and for preparing a summit meeting between the King and the Senegalese President. The Minister also highlighted that Senegal is a key player in the Atlantic African Gas Pipeline project, as a gas-producing country and a central link along its route.

For his part, Cheikh Niang, Senegal’s Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad, praised the excellence of the relations between Senegal and Morocco, expressing his country’s firm determination to further strengthen the strategic partnership with the Kingdom in all fields.

Niang also reiterated his country’s commitment to deepening and promoting its relations with Morocco, emphasizing the "exceptional” nature of the centuries-old ties that unite the two nations.
