The President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, has ordered the immediate creation of a Task Force dedicated to the rehabilitation of infrastructure built for the 50th anniversary of the African Games held in 2015.

Placed under the authority of the Prime Minister, the Task Force will be led by the Minister of State in charge of Territorial Planning and Major Works. It includes several government members, notably the Ministers of Finance, Construction, Urban Planning, Housing, Defense, and Interior.

The President denounced the advanced state of disrepair of the infrastructures that were built at great expense for the 2015 African Games.

“A few years ago, modern sports facilities were established in our country as part of the accelerated municipalization efforts and the celebrations of the national holiday. They aimed to bring sports closer to the population and foster the emergence of high-level athletes,” he recalled.

Among the concerned infrastructures are the Kintélé university campus, which hosted nearly 9,000 athletes and officials during the African Games, as well as the Concorde Sports Complex, including the Kintélé Stadium, now in a state of severe dilapidation.

The Head of State urged the Task Force to begin work immediately and to report regularly to him, through the Prime Minister, on the progress of the actions undertaken.
