Ethiopian athlete Biniam Mehary recorded the world-leading performance of the year in the 10,000 meters on Saturday during the Prefontaine Classic meet in Eugene, Oregon (USA).

Only 18 years old, Mehary won a highly competitive race in 26 minutes 43.82 seconds, finishing ahead of his more experienced Olympic medalist compatriots Berihu Aregawi (26:43.84) and Selemon Barega (26:44.13).

On the American side, Rudy Winkler (30) hurled his hammer to 83.16 meters, setting a new U.S. national record and delivering the longest throw in Diamond League history.

Canadian Olympic champion Camryn Rogers (26) followed with a throw of 78.88 meters, breaking the Canadian record and also setting the best throw ever in Diamond League history, making her the 5th-best performer of all time.

Lithuanian world record holder and Olympic silver medalist Mykolas Alekna (22) claimed victory in the discus throw with a mark of 70.97 meters.
