The ruling party in Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has endorsed the candidacy of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for a second and final term in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Tinubu, 73, won the most recent presidential election in February 2023, which was contested unsuccessfully by his two main rivals in court, alleging that the vote was rigged. Tinubu has insisted that he won fairly.

The APC declared at a summit in Abuja, the capital, that it wants Tinubu to continue the reforms that the government claims have revived the economy after removing a costly fuel subsidy and liberalizing the exchange rate.

Tinubu's reforms have been praised by rating agencies, foreign investors, and the International Monetary Fund. Critics, however, argue that they have caused the worst cost-of-living crisis in recent years.

Abdullahi Ganduje, national president of the APC, stated, “On behalf of the National Working Committee, I hereby affirm the various approvals and declare President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate of the APC.”

The summit coincided with the second anniversary of Tinubu's presidency, and several cabinet ministers also spoke about their achievements since taking office.

Nigerian presidents are allowed to serve a maximum of two four-year terms.
