American President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that "certain categories of people" in South Africa were being treated "very badly" and that he would cut the country's funding until the matter was investigated.

"South Africa is confiscating land and treating certain categories of people VERY BADLY," Trump declared in a message posted on Truth Social.

"The United States will not tolerate this; we will take action. Furthermore, I will cut all future funding to South Africa until a full investigation into this situation is completed!" he added.

The United States allocated nearly $440 million in aid to South Africa in 2023, according to the latest U.S. government data.

Last month, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa signed a bill into law that would allow the state to expropriate land more easily in the public interest. The law aims to address racial disparities in land ownership that have persisted three decades after the end of apartheid in 1994.
