On Monday, in Rabat, Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, held discussions with a South African delegation led by Obed Bapela, the Vice President of the African National Congress' (ANC) Committee on International Relations.

Following the talks, Bapela called for an intensification of economic and trade relations between his country and Morocco.

The South African official, who is also a member of the ANC's Executive Committee, invited Moroccan businesses to invest in South Africa, following the example of numerous South African companies already operating in Morocco.

At the multilateral level, Bapela praised Morocco's return to the African Union, highlighting that it provides a space where the two countries "can work together to address the challenges Africa faces."

Bapela also recalled Morocco's support for South Africa’s struggle for independence, noting that in 1994, Nelson Mandela visited Morocco shortly after his country’s independence to express gratitude to the Moroccan people for their contribution to South Africa's liberation and to explore ways to further strengthen bilateral relations.(MAP)
