Spain was the first country to react, through its Foreign Minister, to the European Court of Justice’s decision regarding the EU-Morocco agricultural and fisheries agreements. The Spanish government has issued an official statement in response.

In a statement published on Sunday, October 6, on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation, the Spanish government emphasizes the strategic nature of its partnership with Morocco, both for Spain and the EU.

While taking note of the rulings of the European Court of Justice regarding the EU-Morocco agricultural and fisheries agreements, Spanish authorities highlight the significant benefits of these agreements, assuring that Spain has played and will continue to play a crucial role in this matter.

The Spanish government also formally reaffirms its support for the joint statement issued by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission, Josep Borrell.

Spain further announced that it will work with the European Union's institutions and partners to explore ways to continue strengthening its relationship with Morocco, which remains a key partner for both Spain and the European Union.

This statement is part of the widespread support expressed by several European countries for Morocco, including France, Belgium, Finland, Hungary, among others, as well as by numerous Members of the European Parliament, highlighting the disconnect between European politics and justice.
