Following the amendment of the Transitional Charter on May 25, 2024, granting him an additional five-year term starting July 2, the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, will not take the oath again.
The National Conference on the Transition held on May 25 and 26 decided to extend the transition by five more years.
According to the new charter, signed by Ibrahim Traoré, the transition is set for 60 months starting from July 2.
The initial draft of the text submitted to the participants proposed "three and a half years," or 42 months, but it was ultimately set to five years.
"The elections marking the end of the transition could be organized before this deadline if the security situation allows," Traoré had stated.
The charter also allows Traoré to run for the presidency when the elections take place.
