Participating in the 2nd edition of Gitex Africa Morocco 2024, held from May 29 to 31 in Marrakech, Orange Morocco has forged a strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the global leader in cloud computing services. This alliance, a first in Morocco and North Africa, supports the upcoming Morocco Digital Strategy 2030.

"As a committed actor in supporting the Kingdom's digital transformation, Orange Morocco is proud to ally with the world's leading cloud solutions provider, Amazon Web Services," said Brahim Sbaï to L’Observateur du Maroc et d’Afrique. The vice-president of Orange Morocco highlighted the significance of this alliance. "Morocco is a dynamic market where digital transformation is progressing rapidly. This collaboration promises to open new opportunities for innovation and growth for both the public and private sectors," he continued.

The partnership between Orange Morocco and AWS aims to support the growth of the territorial cloud market, a sector projected to reach an economic value of 7 billion dirhams by 2027. Data territoriality is a fundamental pillar of this partnership, ensuring businesses security, compliance, and control over their data. AWS services will be physically hosted in Orange Morocco's data centers, providing ultra-low latency. The operator noted in a statement that AWS Wavelength integrates AWS compute and storage services directly into telecommunications networks at the edge.

The same alliance was also formed between AWS and Sonatel (Orange Senegal).

Brahim Sbaï emphasized the advancement of data localization assured by the new alliance, aligning the national operator with local data residency regulations and enhancing legal security.

Leveraging AWS, Orange Morocco aims to bring the entire AWS ecosystem to Morocco, offering services including computing, storage, databases, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Importantly, billing will be in dirhams, simplifying cost management for businesses.

Additionally, this partnership will accelerate the development of key sectors such as finance, healthcare, and augmented and virtual reality applications.

Migrating to the cloud will enable businesses and public administrations to reduce IT infrastructure costs and improve operational efficiency.

This collaboration will also strengthen the local digital ecosystem by fostering innovation and supporting the growth of emerging businesses and startups through simplified access to cloud resources and development tools.

"The partnership with AWS is an important step for Orange Morocco in its mission to support the Kingdom's digital transformation," concluded Brahim Sbaï.
