During his first address to the Nation on the eve of April 4, the national holiday, the new President of the Republic promised to establish virtuous governance, based on the ethics of responsibility and the duty to be accountable.

"In the quest for a better Senegal for the benefit of all, I intend to establish virtuous governance, based on the ethics of responsibility and the obligation to be accountable," declared Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

The head of state, who took office on Tuesday, also promised to "promptly embark on a bold policy of good economic and financial governance," reported the Senegalese press agency.

This policy will be characterized by "the relentless fight against corruption, criminal prosecution of tax fraud and illegal financial flows, protection of whistleblowers, the fight against embezzlement of public funds and money laundering, amnesty for front men on condition of self-disclosure, and the publication of reports from the IGE, the Court of Auditors, and the OFNAC."

President Faye assured that the exploitation of natural resources, which, according to the constitution, belong to the people, will receive particular attention from his government.

Moreover, Bassirou Diomaye Faye expressed concern about the cost of living and announced that strong measures would be taken in this regard in the coming days.

"The Senegalese are brave, but they are tired and expect solutions from us against the high cost of living. The issue of the cost of living particularly concerns me and holds my full attention," Faye declared, while promising strong measures in the coming days that he will undertake with the concerned stakeholders.
