Saudi Arabia has just launched its Green Initiative in Abidjan, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 278 million tons per year by 2030.

Dubbed "Saudi Green," this initiative, deployed simultaneously around the world, commits to restoring 40 million hectares of land and rehabilitating natural green spaces, as reported by the Ivorian Press Agency.

As part of this initiative, 10 billion trees will be planted in Saudi Arabia and 450 million worldwide by 2030.

The Saudi Green Initiative includes programs and investment projects in new energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and carbon capture and storage programs, according to the same source.

The goal is for 50% of the electricity produced in Saudi Arabia to come from renewable sources by 2030, stated the Saudi Ambassador to Ivory Coast, Saad Bin Bakheat.

To achieve these ambitious targets, the Kingdom is implementing initiatives focused on reducing carbon emissions and developing renewable energies, particularly through investments in clean hydrogen and advanced carbon capture technologies.

In this regard, 77 initiatives have been launched to support the three goals of the Saudi Green Initiative and promote positive long-term change. These include reforestation efforts, biodiversity protection, carbon emission reduction, and the creation of new nature reserves.
