Gabon’s economy is expected to accelerate in 2027. According to a statement issued following Friday’s Council of Ministers meeting, economic growth is projected at 4.5%, compared with 4.0% expected in 2026, driven notably by stronger activity in both the non-oil and oil sectors.
Non-oil activities are expected to grow by 4.6%, while the oil sector is projected to expand by 4.1%.
This momentum is expected to be supported in particular by an increase in oil production. Output is estimated at 11.30 million metric tonnes in 2027, compared with 10.80 million tonnes in 2026, representing an increase of 4.1%.
However, this rise in production would come amid less favorable conditions on the oil market. The price of Gabonese crude is expected to fall to $70 per barrel in 2027, from $80 in 2026, a decline of 12.5%.
The mining sector is also expected to contribute to economic activity. Manganese production is projected to reach 10.3457 million tonnes in 2027, compared with 9.525 million tonnes in 2026, representing an increase of 8.6%.
Another major development announced is the start of iron ore production, with output forecast at 1.5 million tonnes in 2027.
In the forestry sector, sawn timber production is also expected to increase by 2%, reaching 1.045 million m³, compared with 1.0247 million m³ in 2026.
These projections therefore point to a Gabonese economy that is expected to benefit in 2027 from simultaneous growth across several productive sectors, despite a less favorable outlook for oil prices.
