Angola and Botswana are seeking to take their economic relations to a new level. An Angola–Botswana Economic Forum will be held on Tuesday in Luanda, with the aim of strengthening trade between the two countries, bringing their business communities closer together and identifying new investment opportunities.

The meeting is taking place as part of Botswana President Duma Gideon Boko’s three-day official visit to Angola, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Investment and Partnerships at the Heart of the Discussions

According to Angola’s Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX), the forum aims in particular to intensify economic cooperation and encourage exchanges between investors and economic operators from both countries.

Representatives of public institutions, investors, and Angolan and Botswanan companies are expected to attend the event. They will examine investment opportunities, prospects for expanding bilateral trade, and possibilities for establishing new partnerships.

Networking sessions and direct business-to-business meetings are also planned to facilitate contacts between economic stakeholders.

The Botswanan business delegation is expected to include operators from the agribusiness, mining, tourism, transport and logistics sectors. They will seek to gain a better understanding of the potential of the Angolan market and establish business relationships with local companies.

Strategic Sectors with Strong Potential

The forum is part of a broader effort to give fresh momentum to economic relations between Luanda and Gaborone and strengthen private-sector participation in bilateral cooperation.

This momentum was recently illustrated by the first session of the Bilateral Commission held in Luanda, nearly five decades after the establishment of this cooperation mechanism.

The meeting enabled both sides to review the state of their relations and examine new legal instruments aimed at broadening and diversifying cooperation.

Several sectors have been identified as priorities, including agriculture, livestock farming, energy, mining, tourism, transport, logistics, the environment and food security.

Diamonds: A Major Area of Cooperation

The diamond sector is also among the areas offering significant potential for cooperation.

Botswana has internationally recognized expertise in the industry, while Angola ranks among Africa’s major diamond producers. This complementarity could foster new exchanges of expertise, investment and partnerships across the diamond industry.

Tourism is another promising area. Cooperation could notably extend to nature conservation, national park management and the development of sustainable tourism.

Both countries have natural resources and complementary experience that could support the development of joint projects.

Toward a New Economic Momentum

Through this forum, Angola and Botswana are demonstrating their determination to turn their political and institutional relations into concrete economic opportunities.

Across investment, trade, mining, agriculture, tourism and logistics, the two countries are now seeking to make greater use of their complementary strengths and establish the private sector as a key driver of closer economic ties.

The Luanda Economic Forum could therefore provide a new platform for accelerating the diversification of trade and placing Angola–Botswana cooperation on a more ambitious economic path.
