On May 22, 2026, Nasser Bourita held talks in Rabat with Carlos Arturo Hoyos Boyd, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Panama. The meeting reflected the rapid progress of relations between the two countries.

For the first time since establishing diplomatic relations, Morocco and Panama created a formal mechanism for political consultations. This step reflected the growing maturity of their partnership and their determination to raise bilateral cooperation to a higher level.

The Panamanian official described Morocco as a strategic partner in Africa, the Arab world, and the Atlantic and Mediterranean regions.

The two countries expressed converging positions on several international issues, notably the use of dialogue, regional stability, South-South cooperation, sustainable development, maritime security and respect for state sovereignty.

Regarding the Moroccan Sahara, Panama reaffirmed its consistent position in support of the Autonomy Plan under Moroccan sovereignty as the only solution to the dispute. It also expressed its support for United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797.

This political convergence accompanied a broader determination to expand cooperation and build a lasting relationship between the two sides of the Atlantic.
