Angola and Namibia Strengthen Their Digital Partnership with a Strategic Agreement

Angola and Namibia have taken a new step in their technological cooperation. On Thursday in Luanda, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening partnerships in information and communication technologies (ICT), media, and cybersecurity.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the sixth edition of ANGOTIC by Namibia’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, and her Angolan counterpart, Mário Oliveira.

The initiative follows an earlier agreement concluded in April in Swakopmund between Telecom Namibia and Angola Telecom. That partnership enabled the Angolan operator to access international bandwidth through the Equiano submarine cable, reducing its dependence on certain international transit routes.

The two companies have also paved the way for future cooperation on the SARSSy submarine cable project, currently being developed under the leadership of Angola Telecom.

Through this partnership, Namibia aims to strengthen its position as a regional digital hub on the Atlantic coast of Southern Africa, while Angola seeks to enhance the resilience of its digital infrastructure by diversifying its access routes to global connectivity.

Driven by growing investment in digital infrastructure, this cooperation reflects the determination of both countries to accelerate their digital transformation and strengthen their role in Africa’s digital economy.
