The African Development Bank (AfDB) has announced a contribution of 80 million US dollars to finance the second General Population and Housing Census (RGPH2) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, scheduled for next July.
This contribution represents a significant share of the total commitments estimated at 200 million dollars. Of this amount, 50 million will be allocated to field census operations, while 30 million will be dedicated to strengthening the capacities of national institutions, including the National Institute of Statistics (INS) and other structures involved in planning, budgeting, and monitoring and evaluation.
Other financial partners, such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the United Nations system, have also announced their contributions. The Congolese government, for its part, has mobilized 30 million dollars for the operation.
The last census in the DRC dates back to 1984, when the country had a population of 30 million. Today, the population exceeds 110 million, highlighting the importance of updating demographic data for national planning and development.
