Congo Presidential Election: Constitutional Court Confirms Sassou Nguesso’s Re-election

The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Congo on Saturday validated the results of the presidential election held on March 12 and 15, confirming the re-election of incumbent President Denis Sassou Nguesso, according to an official statement.

According to the ruling, the provisional results announced on March 17 by Interior Minister Raymond Zéphirin Mboulou have been declared valid.

Sassou Nguesso, the candidate of the Presidential Majority—a coalition of around twenty political parties—was running against six other candidates.

According to the official results, he secured 94.82% of the votes cast. The electorate included 3,167,099 registered voters, with a turnout rate of 84.65%, according to the Ministry of the Interior. A total of seven candidates competed in this presidential election.
