The presidential election in the Republic of the Congo will take place on March 15, 2026, the Congolese government announced on Tuesday.
"The Council of Ministers has convened the electoral body across the entire national territory for the first round of the presidential election, according to the following schedule: early voting for members of the security forces on Thursday, March 12, 2026, and general voting on Sunday, March 15, 2026,” said government spokesperson Thierry Lézin Moungalla.
He added that the electoral campaign for the first round will run from February 28 to March 13, with a day of electoral silence on Thursday, March 12, to ensure the smooth conduct of voting operations for members of the security forces.
The outgoing president, Denis Sassou Nguesso, was nominated as a candidate by his political party, the Congolese Labour Party (PCT), during its 6th ordinary congress held in December in Brazzaville.
