Tunisia: Youth Unemployment Soars

In the first quarter of 2025, the unemployment rate in Tunisia reached 15.7%, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS). The number of unemployed individuals stands at 664,500.

The unemployment rate slightly increased among men, reaching 13.6% (the same rate as the first quarter of 2024), while it decreased among women, falling to 20.3% from 22% in the first quarter of 2024.

The unemployment rate for young people aged 15 to 24 decreased in the first quarter of 2025, dropping to 37.7% compared to 39.2% in the first quarter of 2024. This decrease affects both men (38.4%) and women (36.3%), according to the INS.

This figure decreases for higher education graduates, reaching 23.5% in the first quarter of 2025 (compared to 23.4% in the first quarter of 2024). It stands at 13.6% for men and 30.7% for women.

According to a report from the INS, during the first quarter of the current year, the active Tunisian population increased, reaching 4,233,400 individuals, compared to 4,145,000 in the first quarter of 2024. It is divided into 68.5% men and 31.5% women.
