During an official visit to India, Angolan President João Lourenço and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed four cooperation agreements on Sunday, May 4, 2025, marking a new step in strengthening bilateral relations between Luanda and New Delhi.

The first memorandum of understanding focuses on cultural exchanges. The second pertains to agriculture, with a particular emphasis on rural development and technologies.

"India's expertise in agricultural mechanization, agro-industry, and food production positions it as an ideal partner to support our ambition to achieve food security, modernize the fields, and transform the agricultural sector into a pillar of the Angolan economy," said the Angolan president at the opening of the economic forum held in New Delhi to stimulate investments and strengthen trade exchanges.

A third agreement was signed in the field of traditional medicine, an area where India has widely recognized expertise. Additionally, Angola joined the International Solar Alliance by signing a framework agreement on renewable energy.

"We also discussed cooperation in the repair, overhaul, and supply of defense platforms, as well as support for training," said the Indian Prime Minister, announcing the approval of a $200 million credit line for defense purchases to support the modernization of the Angolan armed forces.

Furthermore, India also offered to share its expertise in public digital infrastructure, capacity building, and space technology with Angola. Other areas of collaboration include diamond processing, fertilizers, and essential minerals. A youth exchange program is also planned to strengthen ties between the two peoples.
