Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno issued a decree on Wednesday convening senators of the first legislature for their inauguration on March 7, 2025.
The convocation of members of Chad's newly established Senate follows the publication of final senatorial election results by the Constitutional Council and the appointment of 23 additional senators through the presidential quota.
The results significantly favored the ruling party, MPS, which secured 43 seats, while the opposition obtained only three.
Another decree, signed on March 5, designates the Palais des Arts et de la Culture in N'Djamena as the official seat of the Senate.
For the first time in its political history, Chad is establishing a Senate consisting of 69 members—46 elected and 23 appointed.
