Africa shone at the 67th Grammy Awards, held on Sunday, February 2, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Among the most prominent artists of the night, Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, made history by winning the prestigious Best African Music Performance award for her song Love Me JeJe.

Facing tough competition, Tems triumphed over some of Africa’s biggest music stars, including Yemi Alade with Tomorrow, Asake and Wizkid with MMS, Chris Brown, Davido, and Lojay with Sensational, and Burna Boy with Higher. This award further cements the Nigerian artist’s rise on the global music scene.

This victory marks Tems’ second Grammy win, following her 2023 triumph for her collaboration with Future and Drake on Wait for U. Her meteoric rise and unique musical style, blending R&B, Afrobeat, and soul, have positioned her as one of the most influential African artists of her generation.

But Tems didn’t stop there this year. In addition to her win, she received two other nominations: Best Global Music Album for Born in the Wild and Best R&B Song for Burning. With these latest achievements, the artist now boasts eight Grammy nominations in her career—an impressive feat for an African artist of her era.

The 2025 Grammy Awards edition once again highlighted the growing impact of African music on the global stage. With her talent and charisma, Tems continues to pave the way for a new generation of African artists, solidifying the continent’s undeniable influence in the global music industry.
