Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has been re-elected as the leader of the Prosperity Party during the party’s congress, held from January 31 to February 2 in Addis Ababa.

This reappointment of Abiy Ahmed as the leader of his Party confirms his leadership within the ruling party in Ethiopia and strengthens his influence on the national political scene. The congress also appointed Temesgen Tiruneh and Adem Farah as the party’s vice presidents, further solidifying the leadership team for the coming years.

Speaking on social media after his election, Abiy Ahmed stated: “The trust and responsibility entrusted to me and the vice presidents through this re-election encourage us to move forward with renewed commitment.”

This re-election comes at a time when Ethiopia faces significant political and economic challenges, including peace consolidation after the Tigray conflict and ongoing tensions in various regions of the country.

Founded in 2019 by Abiy Ahmed, the Prosperity Party remains a central player in Ethiopia’s political landscape and plays a key role in implementing the government’s reform agenda.
