Mali condemns the Algerian regime's interference in its internal affairs and reiterates the serious accusations previously made against Algeria in January 2024.

In a statement issued on January 1, 2025, Mali’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation strongly protested remarks made by the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs criticizing Mali’s counterterrorism strategy.

The Malian government considers Ahmed Attaf's comments to be a renewed act of interference in Mali’s internal affairs. In its protest statement, the Malian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation reaffirmed that Algeria’s proximity and complicity with terrorist groups have exacerbated security and humanitarian crises in Mali. These accusations were previously leveled against Algeria in a statement dated January 25, 2024, where Mali denounced the situation and announced the "immediate termination" of the Algiers Peace Agreement.

Malian authorities defend themselves against what they call "Algerian interference," emphasizing the recent successes of the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) against terrorist groups, despite "implicit support from Algeria."

The Malian government denounces Algeria's attempts to destabilize Mali at a time when the country is striving to strengthen its sovereignty and security. It also issued a new appeal for Algeria to refocus its efforts on its own internal challenges, including issues in the Kabyle region. Mali urges Algeria to stop leveraging the Malian situation for its geopolitical ambitions.

Furthermore, Mali reiterates its commitment to eradicating terrorism in all its forms. It underscores the importance of cooperation with its regional allies, particularly Burkina Faso and Niger, within the framework of the AES Confederation. This tripartite partnership is presented as a robust and independent alternative to counter terrorist threats in the Sahel.
