Burkina Faso has a new Prime Minister: Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, former Minister of Communication. On Friday, the transitional president dissolved the government.

The day after the dissolution, Burkina Faso’s transitional president, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, appointed Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo as the new Prime Minister. A former Minister of Communication and spokesperson for the previous administration, Ouédraogo replaces Apollinaire Joachim Kyélem de Tambèla, who was removed from his position along with the rest of his government. No official reason was given for Tambèla's dismissal. He had led three successive governments since Traoré's rise to power in the 2022 coup d’état.

A journalist by training, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo held key roles in Burkina Faso’s public media, including as editor-in-chief and later as director of the national television channel.

A close collaborator of Captain Traoré, Ouédraogo was appointed Minister of Communication and government spokesperson following the September 2022 coup. As a prominent civilian figure within the military administration, he maintained his role through three successive cabinet reshuffles.

This appointment underscores the importance of continuity in the transitional government’s communication strategy, amid a governance landscape shaped by regional security instability.
