Originally set for April 20, the legislative elections in Togo have been postponed to April 29.
The Togolese government officially delayed the election date to allow time for consultations on the new Constitution.
However, several opposition parties view this postponement as a maneuver to extend President Faure Gnassingbé's time in power.
According to a decree revising the electoral calendar, announced in a Cabinet meeting, the campaign period will start on April 13 and end on April 27.
Early voting for the Togolese armed forces, paramilitary forces, and operational reserves is scheduled for April 26, 2024.
President Gnassingbé has been in office since 2005, succeeding his father who ruled Togo for nearly 38 years.
