Gabon is preparing to make digital technology a key pillar of cooperation and development. From October 26 to 30, Libreville will host Gabon Digital Week, an event dedicated to innovation, digital transformation and strengthening digital cooperation across Africa.

The program was presented to the press on Wednesday, October 21, by Loïc Apanga, Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalization, Innovation and New Technologies.

Held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, this digital week aims to engage the media in highlighting the challenges and initiatives that will shape Gabon's and Africa's digital ecosystems.

The program includes a government seminar on national digitalization strategies, the presentation of the Gabon Digital program and the launch of a 5G pilot project. Participants will also attend the final of the National Innovation Challenge, the launch of the Unified Register of State Holdings, meetings of the African Union's Specialized Technical Committee, and the presentation of a GSMA audit report.

The event will also feature the opening of a digital village bringing together businesses, start-ups, investors, academics and other industry stakeholders. Open to the public, this space aims to encourage exchanges, partnerships and the emergence of new opportunities. An online platform will allow interested participants to register and obtain invitations.

African ministers responsible for digital affairs, experts and representatives of international organizations are expected in Libreville. Discussions are expected to culminate in the adoption of the "Libreville Declaration," ahead of the International Telecommunication Union's Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26), scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar.

Through this initiative, Gabon aims to strengthen its position in Africa's digital economy and establish digital technology as a driver of sovereignty, inclusion, competitiveness and job creation.
