L’Atelier 21 has announced the participation of Safaa Erruas and M’barek Bouhchichi in the 16th Dakar Biennale of Contemporary African Art.
Entitled "(Anti)fragility: Arts of Repair and Strategies of Backlash,” this edition will take place from November 19 to December 19, 2026, under the artistic direction of Morad Montazami.
Born in 1976 in Tetouan, Safaa Erruas has developed a distinctive body of work centered on whiteness, fragility and materiality. A graduate of the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan in 1998, she combines paper, needles, pins, razor blades and fibers in compositions where delicacy and tension confront one another.
Her works on paper and installations explore the limits of materials and the expressive power of contrasts. The artist lives and works in Tetouan.
Born in 1975 in Akka, M’barek Bouhchichi places the Black body at the heart of his artistic practice. Through sculpture, drawing, painting and installation, he questions the representations, identities and memories that shape Moroccan society.
Hands, faces, imprints and fragments become vehicles for reflection on visibility, transmission and cultural heritage.
The artist lives and works in Tahannaout, Morocco.
