Benin on Tuesday, in Cotonou, reaffirmed its unequivocal support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region.
The country also reiterated its backing for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan, describing it as the only credible and realistic basis for achieving a lasting resolution to the dispute.
This position was formalized in the joint communiqué issued following the seventh session of the Morocco–Benin Joint Commission for Cooperation. The meeting was co-chaired by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and his Beninese counterpart, Corinne Amori Brunet, Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the Integration of Afro-descendants.
On the occasion, the Beninese foreign minister welcomed the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, noting that it strengthens the momentum in support of Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as the framework for resolving the dispute.
Corinne Amori Brunet also announced that she will soon visit Dakhla to observe the region’s economic and social development firsthand and explore opportunities for cooperation and investment between the two countries.
The two delegations also agreed to hold the next session of the Joint Commission for Cooperation in Dakhla, underscoring the growing strategic partnership between Rabat and Cotonou.
