Argentina has secured its place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.

Trailing for much of the second half, La Albiceleste staged a dramatic late comeback to defeat England 2-1 on Wednesday night in Atlanta, keeping alive its dream of winning a second consecutive World Cup title.

After a tightly contested first half, the Three Lions took the lead in the 55th minute through Anthony Gordon. England looked set to book its place in the final after a disciplined defensive display, but Argentina turned the game around under relentless pressure. Enzo Fernández equalized in the 85th minute, before Lautaro Martínez sparked wild celebrations by scoring the winner in stoppage time, with both goals created by Lionel Messi.

At 39 years old, Lionel Messi will now play the final World Cup final of his career, with the opportunity to end his international journey by lifting another world title.

Argentina will face Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on Sunday, July 19, at MetLife Stadium, while Englandwill take on France in the third-place playoff.
