The World Bank has approved a $200 million financing package for Togo to support the Logistics and Transport Services Improvement Program (PASLT). The initiative aims to strengthen the country's position as a leading logistics hub in West Africa.

A key component of the program is the rehabilitation of the railway line linking the Port of Lomé to the Adétikopé Industrial Platform (PIA). The project is expected to boost container transport by rail and improve the efficiency of trade flows.

The PASLT also includes measures to enhance mobility in Greater Lomé by reducing traffic congestion around the port, while strengthening transport links between the country's main agricultural production areas—including the regions of Kara, Savanes, Plateaux and the Plaine de Mô—and both domestic and international markets.

According to Tony Verheijen, the World Bank's Resident Representative in Togo, the project is a strategic step toward reinforcing Togo's role as a regional transport and logistics platform, building on the strong performance of the Port of Lomé. He added that the initiative is expected to create jobs, strengthen value chains, and attract new private investment.
